HUNT, MOSHENEK ADVANCE TO NCAA DIVISION III MEN'S WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP
AMCC wrestlers got back on the mats this weekend, as the grapplers competed in the NCAA Division III Region III regional tournaments, hosted by Lycoming College and Messiah University.
AMCC wrestlers got back on the mats this weekend, as the grapplers competed in the NCAA Division III Region III regional tournaments, hosted by Lycoming College and Messiah University. Two AMCC wrestlers punched their tickets to the NCAA National Tournament, including Penn College's Noah Hunt and Alfred State College's Elijah Moshenek.
PENN COLLEGE
Penn College senior Noah Hunt became the second Wildcat wrestler in program history to advance to the NCAA Division III Championship after his third-place finish at 141 pounds Sunday in the NCAA Division III Region 2 Championship at Lycoming College. In team competition, Penn College was 10 of 19, which was its highest regional finish in program history. The Wildcats also placed a program-record five wrestlers on the regional podium with T.J. Martin (149), Carter Davis (165), Isaac Cory (184), and Nick Woodruff (197) joining Hunt. Hunt, a four-time regional place-finisher, posted a 5-1 record over two days of action — including two falls and a technical fall — as he hiked his career record to 103-45 and season mark to 20-6. Hunt pinned his way to nationals after decking Wilkes' Ryan Santiago in 4:32 in the consolation semifinals, and cradling Penn State Behrend's Cole Neil in 2:21 in the third-place match. Davis, who went 3-2 and placed fourth, went 2-0 before a semifinal setback. The freshman rebounded with a 7-1 decision against Wilkes' Caleb Lawrence in the consolation semifinals before dropping a 14-1 major decision against Lycoming's Kaiden Wagner in the third-place match. Cory, who went to nationals two seasons ago, went 4-2 and placed fifth. Cory was 3-1 on day one, including an overtime win, before going 1-1 on Sunday, which finished with an injury default win in the fifth-place match. Woodruff went 2-3, with a fall and a decision, to finish sixth. After going 2-1 on Saturday, Woodruff sufferance a pair of falls Sunday in the consolation semifinals and fifth-place match. Martin finished eighth after going 3-3, including a 3-1 mark on day one with two tech falls and a decision. Martin fell by major decision in the both the consolation third round the seventh-place match
ALFRED STATE
The Alfred State men's wrestling tallied three place finishers at the NCAA Regionals. The Pioneers finished in 15th place with a score of 36 points. Elijah Moshenek was the top place finisher for the Pioneers in the 133-weight class as he finished third. With this third-place finish, Moshenek advanced to the NCAA National Championship tournament. He started day two with a first-round fall over Botensky Bauzile (Hunter) in 1:43. He followed with a 5-3 decision win over Michael Santore (Oswego State) to advance to the third-place match. In the third-place match, Moshenek notched a 6-4 decision win to take third place and the chance to go to the national tournament. Benjamin Rivera fell in his first match but earned a spot in the seventh place match. He would suffer a second loss to take eighth place in the Region in the 165-weight class. Brent Perry would also suffer two losses to take eighth place in the Region at the 184-weight class.
PENN STATE BEHREND
The Penn State Behrend wrestling squad finished 13th out of 19 teams with 53 points at the 2025 NCAA Division III Regional Qualifier hosted by Lycoming College over the weekend. The Behrend Lions tallied their best team finish at regionals. Cole Neil improved on his sixth-place finish from last season, earning a team-best fourth place at 141. Rudy Brown and Konnor Tubin each took sixth overall, while Zach Dellinger and Nolan Fenton placed eighth. Neil pinned Jaden Friel of Brockport in 1:45 and used a 15-10 decision over Trevor Bishop of St. John Fisher to advance in the third-place match at a chance at nationals. Noah Hunt of Penn pinned Neil in 2:21 for fourth overall. Brown, competing at 157, started the day with an 8-5 decision over Ryley Monica of Oneonta State, before falling in the final two matches of the day for sixth place. Tubin, who earned 10.5 points at 174, went 1-2 on the day for sixth place. Tubin's lone win was a 15-5 major decision over Gavin McLaughlin of Brockport. Dellinger and Fenton dropped a pair of matches for eighth place at 125 and 197, respectively
PITT-BRADFORD
D.J. Slovick was the only Panther back in action on day two of the NCAA Regional Qualifying meet on Sunday, as he looked to earn a spot in the NCAA Championship Tournament. Slovick fell shy of the 3rd and final qualifying spot, finishing in 5th place. Slovick entered the day in the 174 lb. consolation bracket, needing three straight wins to qualify for nationals. On day 1, he won three matches, and lost in a 4-1 sudden victory decision. He began his day with another tight bout, advancing to the consolation semi-final with a 3-1 decision victory. In the semis, Slovick scored a takedown first, but ultimately fell by a 15-7 decision. Trailing 10-3 in the 2nd, Slovick was able to earn 2 points on a reversal, but could not turn it into a nearfall or pin and lost advantage 15 seconds later. He escaped twice in the third, but could not get a takedown to cut into the lead. In his final placement match, Slovick secured his spot in 5th, winning by an 11-7 decision. He jumped ahead quickly, taking a 6-1 lead after the first period, registering a pair of takedowns. He picked up another in the second and then secured the victory with two escapes in the 3rd. This marks the 2nd time Slovick has reached a podium position in his career, as he took 6th in the 165 lb. weight class last year. It is also the best qualifying finish for a Pitt-Bradford wrestler in the program's history. Slovick's podium position last season tied him with Sam Colebert, who also finished sixth in 2018-19. Mitchell Dowd is the final Panther to place at regionals, as he took 8th in 2019-20. As a team, the Panthers tallied 20.5 points, the 16th best total at the event.
PENN STATE ALTOONA
Three Lions were in action for Penn State Altoona in the double-elimination tournament: freshmen Evan Davis at 125, Remington Fleck at 149, and Andrew Weaver at 174. Davis qualified to start in the championship round of the 125 bracket, where he lost by tech fall, 16-1, to Alvernia's Keito Shaw in the first match. After dropping to the consolation bracket, Davis lost by major decision, 10-0, to Misericordia's Jaydin Barreto. Fleck's first match of the day was in the championship round of the 149 bracket, and the freshman lost by tech fall, 19-2, to Misericordia's Michael Williams. After that, Fleck moved to the consolation bracket and took his second loss of the day by tech fall, 20-5, to Marymount's Pahris Petalas. Weaver's day in the 174 bracket opened in the preliminaries, where he suffered a pair of losses. Misericordia's Anthony Matas posted a win by major decision, 16-2, over Weaver in the first prelim match, before Johns Hopkins' Connor Powell won a 9-6 decision against Weaver in the next prelim. With their three wrestlers eliminated, the Lions finished in 18th place on the team leaderboard.
