The D'Youville Spartans and the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats enter Saturday's game of the week looking to gain momentum as the AMCC conference schedule gets into full swing. Coming off their 5th consecutive AMCC playoff appearance, the D'Youville women's soccer team looks to extend their streak of playoff appearances to six. Meanwhile, after narrowly missing the 2014 AMCC postseason tournament, Pitt-Greensburg is looking to get back into the playoffs.
The D’Youville women’s soccer team enters Saturday’s game against Pitt-Greensburg with a 1-0 record in the AMCC after defeating Mount Aloysius 4-1 last Saturday. Sophomore forward Kiernan Johnson scored two goals in the game to go with a goal each from freshman forward Magan Magee and senior forward Rebecca Alvira. Johnson has scored five goals in her last three games, including three goals and two assists against SUNY Canton. The rookie Magee leads the team with six goals and 13 points. Junior midfielder Terra Juda and senior midfielder Melissa LaVere, the top two goal scorers from the 2014 season, have two goals a piece . Freshman goalie Megan Dulniak has started every game this season for the Spartans and has a 4-3 record with 37 saves and one shutout. Last season, D’Youville scored 27 goals the entire season. This season, the Spartans have scored 24 goals in seven games.
Pitt-Greensburg enters Saturday’s contest sitting at 1-1 in the AMCC and 2-6-1 overall. UPG opened conference play with a thrilling 6-5 road victory over Medaille College, highlighted by freshman forward Kayleen Schwegler’s three-goal performance. The Bobcats then dropped a tough 2-1 overtime decision to La Roche College on Wednesday, to even their record at 1-1. Schwegler leads the team with eight goals, which is good for third most in the conference. Returning All-Conference performer, senior forward Courtney Carroll, patrols the midfield while freshman defender Bri Burgunder anchors the back line for sophomore keeper Shannon Edwards.
