Jim Hesch.
Hesch takes over the program after serving as an assistant coach on the D’Youville men’s soccer
coaching staff the past two seasons. Prior to that, Jim has served as an assistant coach for the Rochester Lancers, the University at Buffalo and Fredonia State. In 2001, Jim was named the head coach of the men’s soccer program at Canisius College where he held the position until 2010. He became the programs' all-time wins leader in 2007.
Over the past decade-plus, Hesch has been a major source of soccer development in Western New York. As the Director of Operations for Black Watch NY West Soccer, Jim oversees the development of 13 teams and over 200 youth players. He has held this position since 2004 and continues to hold it presently.
As a player, Jim was very successful as a collegiate athlete. He began his career with a national
championship with Southern Connecticut University in 1990. He then transferred to SUNY Cortland where he played from 1991-93 and was named a First Team All-American in 1993. He graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education.
From his collegiate career, Hesch then moved to the professional level in the Major Indoor Soccer
League/United Soccer League in 1995. He was a NPSL All-Star in the 1997-98 season and was a member of the MISL Championship Team in 2001-02.
In 2000, Hesch played in 38 games and tallied 21 goals with 14 assists. He played with the Harrisburg Heat from 1996-99 and was named an NPSL All-Star in the 1997-98 season after posting 119 points, the eighth-best single-season total in Heat history. In 2002, Hesch captured a Major Indoor Soccer League championship as a member of the Philadelphia Kixx, tallying 36 points in 28 games. He also had a stint with the Buffalo Blizzard in 1999-2000.
Hesch currently holds his USSF National "A" Coaching License as well as USSF National "Youth"
Coaching License. Hesch currently resides in Amherst with his wife Linda, daughter Ryan and son
Connor.
