The first women's soccer game of the week for 2016 features five-time defending champion Penn State Behrend as they travel to Mount Aloysius to take on one of the hottest offenses in the conference.
The Penn State Behrend women’s soccer team is looking to string together their longest winning streak of the season with three in a row at Mt. Aloysius on Sunday. The Lions are hoping for their third straight conference win after shutting out Pitt-Greensburg and D’Youville last week. Junior forward Olivia Belack, the current AMCC Offensive Player of the Week, leads the league with 10 goals and 22 points so far this season. Senior forward Alex Bilka is third in assists with five. As a team, Behrend ranks second in goals per game (3.30) behind the Mounties (3.90).
The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team enters Sunday's contest against defending AMCC Champion Penn State Behrend with a 7-3 overall record, including a 3-1 victory over Medaille this past Sunday in their only AMCC match thus far. The Mounties offensive attack leads the conference with 39 goals and 24 assists, and Mount Aloysius has outscored its last four opponents by a margin of 19-1. Sophomore midfielder Jordan Gebhart leads the Mounties and is second in the conference with nine goals and 21 points. Sophomore striker Cheyenne Kuncher is next in line with eight goals, good for a tie for third in the AMCC. Freshman midfielder Katie Mirance leads the team and is tied for the conference lead with six assists, and has added four goals in her last three contests. Freshman midfielder Sam Torrenti (6 goals), sophomore forward Amanda Brancato (5 goals, 2 assists) and senior midfielder Olivia Woodley (4 goals, 4 assists) also lead the Mountie attack. Freshman Summer Schell leads the Mountie backline, while goalkeeping duties have been shared between senior Zara Apakoh (3-1 record, 1.05 GAA) and sophomore Leanne Cardoso-Bastos (4-2 record, 1.46 GAA).
