The AMCC women's soccer game of the week is a clash between the top two teams in the conference, as the Penn State Behrend Lions (8-5-2, 7-0-1 AMCC) travel to Pitt-Greensburg (16-0, 8-0 AMCC) to take on the Bobcats in a battle for the top spot in the conference. With just two regular season games remaining, these AMCC teams have their sights set on the playoffs and are fighting for hosting rights for the upcoming championship tournament.
Behrend is coming into the game with a 8-5-2 overall record and a 7-0-1 mark in the AMCC. The Lions are on a seven-game AMCC win streak, ranking second in the AMCC. Behrend has shutout the last five opponents. The Lions most recently took down Alfred State 11-0 on Wednesday. Cassidy Ulanowicz and Bella Sestito each tallied three goals for Behrend. Brenna McGuire contributed two goals and three assists. McGuire is tied for third in the AMCC with 10 goals on the season along with third in total points (24). Goalkeeper Madi Jones has a record of 8-1-2 on the season. Jones is ranked third in the conference with a 0.92 goals-against average.
Pitt-Greensburg enters Saturday’s contest in first place in the AMCC standings, with a perfect 16-0-0 overall record and a 8-0-0 mark in conference play. The Bobcats are coming off a 3-1 victory over Mt. Aloysius this past Tuesday afternoon. Freshman Ashley Lucas gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead with her 22nd goal of the season, but late in the first half, Mt. Aloysius tied the match at one. The match remained deadlocked at one with less than 10 minutes in regulation, but in the 82nd minute Juliana Bedoya fired a curling shot into the upper-right hand corner of the net to put the Bobcats up 2-1. With four minutes left in the match, Tiffany Michalek sealed the match with her 16th of the year and sent the Bobcats to their program-record 16th consecutive-win. Offensively, Lucas and Michalek rank first and second in the conference in goals, points, shots, and assists. Defensively, Lauren Yoder leads the conference in wins, save percentage, goals against, and goals-against-average. As a team, the Bobcats rank second in the national with a .925 save percentage and are seventh in both goals-against average (.313) and shutout percentage (.750).
