AMCC women’s soccer players and coaches are as eager as ever to get back to the playing field after their 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. League coaches expect Penn State Behrend to finish at the top of the standings, with 2019 AMCC champion Pitt-Greensburg coming in second. Mount Aloysius College is expected to round out the top three.
Pitt-Greensburg junior forward Ashley Lucas has been named the AMCC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Lucas was named the 2019 AMCC Offensive Player of the Year and was an AMCC first team all-conference selection. She was named to the United Soccer Coaches Association NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region Second Team. Lucas led DIII in game-winning goals (12), tied for sixth in DIII Goals (23), tied for fifth in DIII Points (57), and tied for ninth in DIII points per game (2.71). Lucas led the AMCC in all four categories, as well. She set individual school records for game-winning goals, shots, and shots on goal (61).
Penn State Behrend senior defender Ava Michael was selected as the AMCC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Michael was an AMCC first team all-conference selection in 2018 and was named to the second team in 2019. Michael, serving as the Lions team captain, started in every game since joining the program.
The AMCC championship will be held November 6 at the site of the highest remaining seed, with the winner earning the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
