PITT-GREENSBURG WOMEN EXPECTED TO DEFEND LEAGUE TITLE
The Pitt-Greensburg women’s soccer team has been chosen by league coaches to defend their conference title in 2023, as the Bobcats claimed their second league title a season ago.
The Pitt-Greensburg women’s soccer team has been chosen by league coaches to defend their conference title in 2023, as the Bobcats claimed their second league title a season ago. Penn State Behrend, who finished in the runner-up position a year ago, is expected to finish in second place, while Penn State Altoona rounds out the top three in preseason rankings.
Pitt-Greensburg sophomore forward Megan Hickey has been selected as the AMCC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Hickey was the 2022 AMCC Newcomer of the Year, as well as a first team all-conference selection. She was also named the ECAC Rookie of the Year and was named to the All-ECAC first team. She finished 2022 ranked second in the AMCC in goals (18), points (42), and shots (79) and tied for third in assists (6). Hickey was the AMCC leader in game-winning goals (6). She was the Bobcats’ second leading scorer and led the team in game-winning goals.
Pitt-Greensburg senior defender Nylah Pannebaker has been tabbed as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Pannebaker was the 2022 AMCC Defensive Player of the Year, while also being an AMCC first team all-conference selection and named to the All-ECAC second team. Pannebaker was the team leader in minutes played (1813), while anchoring a backline that allowed just two goals during AMCC play and a league-leading 10 shutouts. She was also named to the 2022 AMCC All-Academic Team
The AMCC championship will be held November 4 at the site of the highest remaining seed, with the winner earning the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
