WOMEN'S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT KICKS OFF THIS WEEKEND
The AMCC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament kicks off this weekend as Penn State Behrend has secured the No. 1 seed for the tournament championship. First round games begin this Saturday when #3 Alfred State College hosts #6 La Roche University and #5 Penn State Altoona will travel to #4 Mount Aloysius College. #1 Penn State Behrend and #2 Pitt-Greensburg will each receive first round byes.
Top seed Penn State Behrend enters the tournament with a perfect 8-0 record in AMCC play. The Lions are led offensively by freshman F Bri Ross, who has scored nine goals and added seven assists in in conference play. While she ranks second in the conference in both categories, her 25 points in conference play put her at the top of the leaderboard. Fellow freshman F Chloe Hart has added six goals for the Behrend Lions, while Lizzie Hoff has registered five goals and six assists. Senior goalkeeper Riley Morningstar started all eight games in goal for Behrend, making five saves and not giving up any goals against AMCC teams, giving her a perfect 1.000 save percentage.
Pitt-Greensburg, with a 6-1-1 record in league play, enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed. Sophomore F/M Bella Carroto tops the Bobcats, and the AMCC, with 10 goals in conference play, while also chipping in with three assist. Senior Megan Hickey has seven goals and three assists on the season, while Maya Wertelet and Emma Reyes each registered four goals and three assists. Goalkeeper Kira Howcroft played in five conference games, making eight saves and allowing just one goal, for an .889 save percentage.
With a 6-2 conference mark, Alfred State comes into the tournament as the No. 3 seed. Freshman forward Isabella Hoffman leads the Pioneer offense with six goals and three assists in AMCC play, while Karlee Hargather has added four goals and five assists. Goalkeeper Madeline Cox started seven of eight league games, making 31 saves, while allowing 12 goals, for a .721 save percentage.
Mount Aloysius, the No. 4 seed, enters the tournament with a 3-3-2 record in league play. Senior M Jordan Bailey and junior F Brooke Thomas each have three goals a piece in conference play, while Bailey has also recorded an assist. Senior F Natalie Despot chipped in with two goals and one assist against AMCC teams. Goalkeeper McKenna Meadows allowed 16 goals to go along with 26 saves for a .619 save percentage
Coming in at 2-2-4 is No. 5 seed Penn State Altoona. The Altoona Lions saw two goals a piece from Ivory MoDavis and Taylor Frederick in conference play. Defensively, goalkeeper Mya Torres stopped 41 shots to just two goals against, for a .953 save percentage.
Rounding out the field is No. 6 La Roche with a 2-3-3 AMCC record. Senior M Zaida Gonzalez Rosado leads the Redhawk attack with four goals in league play this fall. Danielle Dominick and Julianna Hornikel split time in goal this season, registering .806 and .756 save percentages, respectively.
First round games will be played on Saturday, November 1, with the top two seeds receiving byes. The semifinals will take place on Wednesday, November 5, with the championship game on Saturday, November 8. The AMCC champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
