FRANCISCAN, PENN ST. BEHREND REMATCH SET FOR WOMEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2014 AMCC women's tennis championship will feature a rematch of last year's final.
Penn St. Behrend advanced to the finals of the AMCC women's tennis championship in dramatic fashion Saturday night, defeating Pitt-Greensburg, 5-4. The Lions will face top seeded Franciscan University for the conference title as well as the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
The championship match will be held on Sunday at 11:30am at
Westwood Racquet Club in Erie, PA.
Behrend's Malinda Miller earned the decisive
point for her team playing at #4 singles. In a see saw battle
of wills and tenacity, Miller defeated the Bobcats' Sydney
Geary, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in a three hour marathon.
Franciscan, undefeated in the regular season against conference
opponents, defeated #4 Penn St. Altoona in the first semifinal
round match, 5-0. Erin Coyne and
Anna O'Conner were double winners, with Coyne
victorious at #5 singles and #2 doubles, and O'Conner taking #6
singles and #3 doubles.
The Lady Barons are seeking their first ever AMCC title while the
Behrend Lions have earned a total of 12 crowns.
