PITT-GREENSBURG, PENN ST. BEHREND TO MEET IN CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

The field is set for the 2015 AMCC women's tennis championship, which will feature #1 Pitt-Greensburg and #2 Penn St. Behrend. Pitt-Greensburg is looking to claim their first conference title, while Behrend comes in much more experienced as the winners of 12 prior championships.
In the first semifinal match, Pitt-Greensburg dominated #4 Penn St. Altoona by securing a 5-0 victory and advancing to tomorrow's championship. #1 Pitt-Greensburg opened up the 2015 semifinals action by dominating doubles play. No. 3 doubles partners Amanda Jepsen and Emily Frye opened things up by giving the Bobcats their first win, an 8-0 shutout. No. 1 doubles partners Shayla Landman and Corinne Kirk picked up the next win, a 9-7 victory over the Lady Lions. After some long back-and-forth play, Pitt-Greensburg's Sydney Geary and Alexandra Claherty picked up the third win for Pitt-Greensburg, giving the Bobcats a 3-0 advantage heading into singles play. Pitt-Greensburg then picked up singles victories from No. 4 Sydney Geary and No. 5 Amanda Jepsen to seal the victory.
In the nightcap, Behrend put #3 Franciscan away 5-1, but it was not as easy as the score may show. Behrend swept the doubles action with victories from No. 1 Alexandra Laffey/Chelsea Czerwinski and No. 3 Celeste Bentley/Kelly Miller, who each had matching 8-5 scores. No. 2 Colleen Miller/Jacqueline Cannella came up big in a back-and-forth match that saw the Lions prevail 9-8(1) with the tiebreaker. Behrend also picked up the first win in singles, with No. 2 Laffey picking up 6-1, 6-0. After going down 4-0, Franciscan still wasn't letting up, as many of the singles matches were tied at one set a piece. No. 4 Claire Haddad picked up the first victory for the Barons, 6-2, 6-2. Behrend's No. 5 Colleen Miller put the nail in the coffin when she defeated her opponent 6-4, 7-5.
The AMCC championship match will take place tomorrow, Sunday, October 18, at 11:30 a.m. at The Club/Sport and Health in Monroeville, PA.
