FRANCISCAN, PENN ST. ALTOONA ADVANCE TO AMCC SEMIFINALS
Franciscan University and Penn St. Altoona were both victorious in their first round matches and will advance to the AMCC semifinals next weekend

Franciscan cruised through the first round of the AMCC tournament with a 5-0 win over No. 6 seeded Medaille in the Lady Mavericks first-ever appearance in the tournament.
In doubles, the sophomore duo of Maggie Vander Woude/Anna O'Connor were the first to walk off the courts with an 8-0 win at No. 3. Senior Renata Crespo and freshman Julia Razook were not far behind with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles for Franciscan's second point. Junior Claire Haddad/freshman Maria Binette closed out their No. 1 doubles match with an 8-2 win, giving the Lady Barons a 3-0 advantage to start singles play.
With a 3-0 lead after doubles, the Lady Barons only needed to win two singles matches to secure the first-round victory. O'Connor and Vander Woude brought their strong play over to singles as O'Connor clinched the Lady Barons fourth point with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 while Vander Woude blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 to give Franciscan the win.
With the first-round match out of the way, Franciscan can now focus their attention on no. 2 seeded Penn State Behrend who awaits them in the AMCC semifinals next weekend. Behrend took the regular season matchup 7-2.

Penn State Altoona 5, Mt. Aloysius College 1
Penn State Altoona women's tennis defeated Mount Aloysius College 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Adler Tennis Courts.
The fourth-seeded Lady Lions (7-7, 4-4 AMCC) won two out of three doubles matches over number five seed Mount Aloysius (6-5, 4-4 AMCC), then posted three victories in singles to wrap up a berth into the semifinal round next weekend.
In No. 1 doubles, junior Michelle Colucci/freshman Emilee Hollingsworth prevailed 8-5. The duo of sophoore Regina Sanchez/senior Olivia Brown won 8-6 in No. 2 doubles.
Colucci earned a 6-1, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles, Hollingsworth played to a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 3 flight, and freshman Alyssa Decker triumphed 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 slot to clinch the match win.
Penn State Altoona will face number one seed Pitt-Greensburg in the AMCC Semifinals. Pitt-Greensburg won the regular season match 7-2.
The AMCC semifinals will take place on Saturday, October 17 at The Club/Sport & Health in Monroeville, Pa.
