BEHREND CAPTURES BACK-TO-BACK AMCC WOMEN'S TENNIS TITLES
The No. 1 Penn State Behrend women's tennis team defeated No. 2 Penn State Altoona to capture the 2025 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship on Sunday at the Westwood Racquet Club in Erie, PA.
The Lions defended their title for their second straight AMCC Championship, marking Behrend's 16th overall conference tournament championship.
Penn State Altoona (14-2) established a 1-0 lead early in the match when it went 2-for-3 in doubles play, but Behrend surged back to win in singles, where the home squad nabbed four straight victories to end the match at decision. In the No. 1 spot, the duo of Caitlin Blessel/Rachel Stricek prevailed 6-1 for their seventh win of the season together. At No. 2, Sienna Fell/Abigail Morgan pulled out a 7-5 victory for their 11th win of the year. The Behrend Lions pair of Lexa Maloney and Triss Righi managed a 6-3 decision at No. 3 doubles.
Penn State Behrend's Lindsey Kerlin blanked her opponent at No. 4 singles (6-0, 6-0) to help Behrend even the match at 1-all. Enisa Siljkovic put the Behrend Lions ahead 2-1 with a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 2 singles. Lauren Burkley (No. 3 singles) and Tamanna Sharma (No.1 singles) tallied the final singles points for the AMCC Championship. After falling in the first set 6-0, Burkley battled back to win 6-3 and then 10-3 in a tiebreaker. Sharma then solidified the win in the same fashion when she fell 2-6 in the first set before winning 6-4 and 10-6 in a tiebreaker.
