FRANCISCAN CLAIMS FIRST EVER AMCC WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TITLE
#2 seed Franciscan has been crowned the 2014 AMCC Women's Volleyball Champion after upsetting #1 seed Penn St. Altoona in five sets Sunday afternoon at Penn St. Altoona
#2 seed Franciscan has been crowned the 2014 AMCC Women's Volleyball Champion after upsetting #1 seed Penn St. Altoona in five sets Sunday afternoon at Penn St. Altoona. This is the first women's volleyball championship in history for the Barons.
Penn St. Altoona came out strong by winning the first two sets, but it was Franciscan who had the stronger finish by sweeping the final three sets to claim the title.
Franciscan was led by Dani Link and Christina Lawrence who both posted double-doubles on the day. Link finished with 16 kills and 14 digs, while Lawrence recorded 23 digs and ten kills. Libero Sam Kelly also chipped in with 30 digs.
Franciscan will now advance to the NCAA National Tournament, with the first round game slated for November 14. The pairings will be announced on Monday at 11:00 a.m. during the Division III Women's Volleyball selection show.
