PITT-BRADFORD COMPLETES UNDEFEATED REGULAR SEASON, EARNS HOSTING RIGHTS FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Pitt-Bradford completed a perfect 9-0 regular season AMCC record and has earned the top seed and hosting rights to the 2016 AMCC women's volleyball postseason tournament.
Pitt-Bradford completed a perfect 9-0 regular season AMCC record and has earned the top seed and hosting rights to the 2016 AMCC women's volleyball postseason tournament. The Panthers will be looking for their first conference title since 2010, when they won their first women's volleyball championship.
#1 Pitt-Bradford (23-5, 9-0 AMCC) has been led all season by 2015 AMCC Newcomer of the Year, sophomore MH Kirsten Platz, and senior S Christina Rauh. Platz is all over the conference stats board, as she ranks first with a .411 hitting percentage and 0.99 blocks per set. She is also tied for second with 0.43 service aces per set and third with 3.13 kills per set. Rauh leads the league with 8.55 assists per set and 0.65 service aces per set, and is third with a .301 hitting percentage.
#2 Penn State Altoona (12-12, 8-1) will look to sophomore OH Kelsey Bristol who is second in the AMCC with 3.13 kills per set and is tied for second with 0.43 service aces per set, while senior L Emily Baker is second with 6.82 digs per set.
La Roche College (9-15, 5-4 AMCC) has secured the #3 seed and will have the opportunity host their first playoff game in program history. Sophomore OH Laura Nath has been a force for the Redhawks all season. She leads the conference with 388 total kills and 3.88 kills per set. Freshman L Hannah Scott is tops in the conference with 665 total digs and 7.64 digs per set.
#4 Franciscan University (7-20, 5-4) will be making their fifth-straight appearance in the conference tournament. Freshman MH Roz Pridemore ranks second in the league with 0.97 blocks per set, while sophomore S/RH Becca Haven is eighth with 4.66 assists per set.
After an eighth place conference finish in 2015, D'Youville College (7-16, 5-4 AMCC) has enjoyed a solid turnaround season as they enter this year's postseason as the #5 seed. Junior S/OPP Abby Booth is seventh with 4.74 assists per set and is sixth with 0.38 service aces per set. Junior OH Megan Schneider ranks seventh with 2.58 kills per set.
#6 Pitt-Greensburg (8-20, 4-5 AMCC) really burst onto the women's volleyball scene this year after an 0-9 finish in conference play just one year ago. The Panthers finished the regular season with eight wins, the most since they posted 13 in 2008. Junior DS Erica Bosh ranks fifth in the conference with 449 total digs and 5.16 digs per set.
First round games will take place on Wednesday, November 2 at 7pm with Pitt-Greensburg at La Roche and D'Youville at Franciscan. Pitt-Bradford will be kicking off their winter clothing drive during championship weekend, and it will continue during home basketball and swimming contests through December 20. Panther staff will be accepting gloves/mittens, hats, and socks that can be hung on a tree in their Athletics lobby. All items will be donated to the Bradford Area School District to distribute to needy children.
The NCAA women's volleyball championship will take place on November 17-19 at UW-Oshkosh in Oshkosh, WI.
