Mount Aloysius College, Penn State Behrend, and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's volleyball programs have been honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) with a Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2017-18 season, officials announced Monday.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
The AMCC programs are three of a record-breaking 973 teams nationwide honored by the AVCA in 2017-18.
173 total NCAA Division III women's volleyball teams earned qualifying GPAs this year.
