The AMCC Women's Volleyball Game of the Week features the Penn State Behrend Lions (6-9 overall) and the La Roche University Redhawks (7-7 overall).
The two teams haven’t come across many of the same opponents this season so far. The one team that both teams have competed against was John Carroll. Both teams took a loss at the end; La Roche lost in three sets, and the Lions fell to them in four.
Penn St. Behrend has won two of their last three games, capped by a 3-0 victory over Medaille College. The Lions are led offensively by Hannah Phillips, who also leads the AMCC with 196 kills, averaging a conference-best 3.36 kills per set. Phillips also sits fourth in the AMCC with a .246 hitting percentage. Defensively, Sara Nobach is tops in the AMCC with 236 digs and 4.07 digs per set. As a team, Behrend ranks third in the conference with 624 kills and second with 10.40 kills per set. They rank third with 884 digs and 572 assists.
The Redhawks are currently 7-7 and are on a two game win streak. The offense is totaling just around 9.0 kills per set and 16 digs. The Redhawks are coming off a hot streak after hosting a tri match this past weekend. The team was able to take Pitt-Greensburg in three, and later come back and defeat Lycoming in four. This was a feat for La Roche, as they previously fell to Lycoming in four. Also going well for the Redhawks is their offense. Bethany Nulph was named AMCC Offensive Player of the Week due to this past week’s performance. Nulph took the court by storm last week, as she recorded 40 kills, with most being earned against Lycoming with 23; putting her at 4.0 kills per set. Nulph showed her competitors this weekend that she can play defense just as well as she can offense and racked up 47 digs (21 against Lycoming alone), one block, and one assist over three matches. She finished the week with 4.0 kills per set, 4.7 digs per set, five service aces, and two blocks while recording a .279 hitting percentage. Defensively Kenzie Kerkan has been putting up impressive stats for her team. The junior libero has totaled 162 digs so far this season, and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down anytime soon.
