AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR MARCH 16-22, 2026
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports men's volleyball, baseball, tennis, and women's lacrosse and softball for the period running from March 16-22, 2026.
Softball (Player): Mount Aloysius SS Sarah Henninger turned in a standout all-around week at the plate, leading the Mounties with a .556 average (15-for-27) while scoring eight runs and driving in six. The shortstop was a constant presence offensively, recording hits in every game and tallying multiple multi-hit performances. Her week was highlighted by a pair of four-hit games, including a 4-for-5, five-RBI effort against Maine-Presque Isle, while also adding three triples and a double.
Softball (Pitcher): Mount Aloysius SR Jessica Koptcho turned in a dominant week in the circle, highlighted by a no-hitter in the Mounties’ 3-0 win over SUNY Poly. The complete-game shutout marked the first no-hitter of her collegiate career, as she struck out 13 and allowed just three walks. Koptcho went 2-1 with two complete games, posting a 1.24 ERA and 23 strikeouts over 17 innings. She limited opponents to just seven hits all week.
Baseball (Player): Alfred State UTIL Jordan Hughes helped lead the Pioneers to a 2-0 start in conference play as he went 6-for-8 at the plate with three home runs, for 10 RBI, a walk, and a stolen base. In the the first game against Mount Aloysius, he went 4-for-4 with two homers and seven RBI. In game two, he went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and a stolen base. Also in game one, Hughes got the start and win on the mound as he pitched 5.0 innings scattering three runs over eight hits with three strikeouts, in the Pioneers 20-5 win over Mt. Aloysius.
Baseball (Pitcher): Hilbert SR Andrew Johnson led the Hawks to a doubleheader sweep over La Roche on Saturday afternoon. Johnson closed out game one by striking out the side to pickup the save, then followed that performance with a six inning start, allowing only one run on four hits and striking out six to lead the Hawks to a 6-3 Game Two victory. The senior finished the afternoon with nine strikeouts over seven innings (11.59 k/7) while earning a win and a save in the same day.
Women's Lacrosse (Offensive): La Roche A Alecia D'Urso etched her name into the LRU record book with a stellar performance in the Redhawks victory on Saturday. D'Urso matched a program record with 10 goals in a single game, while setting a new program record of 14 points in a single game, adding four assists to her total.
Women's Lacrosse (Defensive): Pitt-Bradford GK Lilly Thuman went 2-0 in goal for the Panthers last week, stopping 58.3% of the shots she faced in wins over Elmira and Thiel. She allowed just one goal in three periods to Elmira, and then four against Thiel.
Men's Volleyball (Offensive): PS-Altoona OPP Caleb Fries continued to provide great offense for the Lions in a 1-1 week of AMCC play. In Friday night's four-set home win over Houghton, the sophomore finished with 20 points on 17 kills, two service aces, and two block assists, while also adding seven digs and two block assists. He followed that up with 13.5 points and a double-double on 12 kills, 10 digs, an ace, and a block assist during Saturday afternoon's three-set road loss at Penn State Behrend. On the week, Fries totaled 33.5 points (4.8 points per set), 29 kills (4.14 kills per set), three aces (0.43 aces per set), and three total blocks (0.43 blocks per set). He also compiled a .250 attack percentage.
Men's Volleyball (Defensive): PS-Altoona L Adam Chan provided solid and steady defense for the Lions in a 1-1 week of AMCC play. In Friday night's 3-1 home win over Houghton, he totaled a team-high 16 digs. In Saturday afternoon's 3-0 road loss at Penn State Behrend, the sophomore tied the match-high in digs with 12. On the week, Chan had 28 digs and averaged 4.0 digs per set.
Men's Tennis: PS-Altoona SR Nick Beard went 2-0 in No. 1 singles matches and 1-1 in No. 1 doubles matches for the Lions last week. In Friday night's tight loss at AMCC opponent Penn State Behrend, the senior won 4-6, 6-4, 10-4 in his No. 1 singles match and suffered a 6-2 loss in No. 1 doubles. In a non-conference victory at Washington & Jefferson on Saturday, Nick prevailed 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.
