The AMCC softball tournament kicks off this weekend with Penn State Behrend earning the top seed and hosting rights for the championship weekend.

Kratzke was almost un-hittable last week, going 4-2 and keeping Medaille in the hunt for one of the AMCC top spots. In 35 innings she struck out 35 batters, and gave up just three earned runs on just 16 hits. She ended the week with a 0.77 ERA with opponents hitting just .132 against her at the plate.

Weiss led the Lady Barons to a 3-3 week in conference action as she recorded a hit in four of the six games. The freshman hit .304, stole seven bases without getting caught, and had three extra base hits including a home run, a triple and a double. She scored six runs, drove in 10 RBI, and had a perfect week fielding with 22 putouts and eight assists.

AMCC softball teams have been battling fierce weather all spring and are entering the final stretch of the regular season. Not only are they trying to get all of their conference gamed played, but they're also trying to rise as high as they can in conference standings as the conference tournament is suddenly in sight. Due to projected weather forecasts and current field conditions, the AMCC softball game of the week between Penn State Altoona and Hilbert College will be played  on the campus of Penn State Behrend Friday afternoon.

Penn State Altoona softball freshman pitcher Emily Strouse picked up two more weekly awards on Tuesday for her performance in the circle last week, as she was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Division III South Region Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week.

Strouse had a sensational week in the circle for the Lady Lions, including recording her first career complete game shutout. Strouse posted a 4-0 record last week with two complete games and one shutout, pitching 29 innings and limiting the opposition to just four earned runs on 25 hits and just four walks. She struck out six batters. Strouse's ERA on the week was a stingy 0.97, and she allowed an opponent batting average of only .229.

Kratzke was red hot both at the plate in the circle last week. Kratzke ended the week hitting .417 with three home runs, nine RBI and three runs scored. She slugged an incredible 1.167 percent earning a team-best 14 total bases On the mound, she went 4-0 with a 2.16 ERA and struck out an incredible 37 batters. She gave up just six earned runs in the four games, throwing four complete games including a complete game shutout against Pitt Bradford on Sunday.

Nichols went 4-0 in four appearances, throwing 24 innings and giving up one earned run for a 0.29 ERA. Her four wins also included two shut-out victories and one complete game. She only surrendered nine hits and struck out 24 during the 7-1 week for the Lions. Offensively, Nichols tallied 12 hits, two doubles, seven RBIs and scored 11 runs.

Giedroc had a big week at the plate for the Lady Lions, helping her team go 2-1-1. In Wednesday's doubleheader split at AMCC opponent Pitt-Greensburg, she combined to go 5-for-7 with seven RBI, four runs scored, two doubles, two walks, two stolen bases, and one home run. In Thursday's doubleheader at Juniata, she was 1-for-5 with four runs scored, three times hit by pitch, three RBI, two stolen bases, two walks, and another home run. On the week, Haley hit .500 (6-for-12) with 10 RBI, eight runs scored, four walks, four stolen bases, two home runs, and two doubles. Her on-base percentage was .684, and she slugged 1.167.

Pitt-Bradford sophomore utility player Madison East has been named Fastpitch News Division III Player of the Week, officials announced Tuesday.

Young went 2-0 and allowed just one earned run over 12 innings. She threw two complete games, striking out eight, and finishing the week with a 0.58 ERA. Young currently ranks third in the AMCC in wins, strikeouts, and complete games.

Gozzard had three multiple hit games this week, finishing with eight hits, two doubles and a home run in four games. She hit .571 and drove in five runs while scoring four of her own. Gozzard smacked two doubles and a home run, leading the Lions to a 3-1 record in AMCC play.

The AMCC softball game of the week features the Mount Aloysius Mounties and the Medaille College Mavericks. Medaille is 9-9 overall, with a 2-2 conference mark after splitting series' with Penn State Behrend and Penn State Altoona. This weekend's series will be the first league games for the Mounties.

Strouse had a strong showing in the circle in the Lady Lions' doubleheader split with AMCC opponent Medaille on Saturday. In game one, she got the start and pitched a complete game for the win, going seven innings and allowing six hits, one run, and one walk while striking out two batters. In game two, she entered in relief and tossed two scoreless, no hit innings with one walk and two strikeouts. For the week, Emily pitched nine innings and limited the opposition to six hits, two walks, and just one run to go along with four strikeouts. She posted an ERA of 0.78.

Carney continued her strong play, leading the team at the plate this past week. Carney recorded a hit in all four games last week, including going 2-for-4 in back-to-back games. She also added a double, two runs scored, and two RBIs throughout the week while hitting .462 and recording seven total bases. Carney has recorded a hit in all but one game this season and leads the team in hits (16), doubles (2), batting average (.500), is second in runs (6), tied for second in RBI (6) and walks (3). She is currently fifth in the AMCC in batting average.

As the month of March winds down, softball season heats up as we move into conferece play on Wednesday this week. The first AMCC softball game of the week of the 2018 season features the Mavericks of Medaille College as they travel to Penn State Altoona on Saturday afternoon for a double-header. Medaille enters the game with a 7-5 record, while Altoona sits at 9-7.

Nichols did not allow any earned runs in two contests (0.00 ERA), while allowing just five hits for a 1-1 week in the circle for the Lions. She threw a three-hit shutout in game one against Thiel. Nichols pitched 7.2 innings and allowed just two hits in a 2-1 loss to Westminster. She struck out 14 batters on the week, seven in each game. Nichols also had five hits, three RBI and a double at bat.

Langer got her Spartan career off to a hot start in Clermont, FL, beginning with the team's season opening 7-6 win over Juniata. Langer went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, and two stolen bases. Then on Friday in a 9-5 win against St. Lawrence, Jackie went 3-4 with two runs scored, three RBI, and her first career home run. She scored runs in four games last week and had two multi-hit games.  She stole at least one base in four games, totaling five stolen bases on the week, while also adding five RBI and six runs scored. Langer currently ranks fifth in the AMCC with a .500 batting average.

Franciscan University sophomore Jayln Effertz earned her second weekly honor in as many days as she was named the ECAC South Pitcher of the Week, Tuesday afternoon.

Effertz finished the week 4-1 with her only loss coming in a close 2-0 loss to Albertus Mangus. She threw four complete games, finishing the week with an impressive 0.75 ERA over 28.0 innings of work. Effertz struck out 25, averaging 6.25 strikeouts per seven innings.

Carrazco hit .409 throughout eight games during spring break. She had three multi-hit games and four extra base hits, while also driving in seven runs, scoring nine times and stealing six bases. Carrazco was perfect in the field with 1.000 fielding percentage, including 14 assists and 12 put outs.

Kratzke recorded six wins in the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC. Kratzke went 6-4 on the mound in 12 appearances. She threw 70.0 innings and struck out 60 while recording a 2.80 ERA.

Trigilio hit .523 (23-for-44) and slugged .795 as the Mavs went 7-5 in the Fast Pitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC. She scored 13 runs, while picking up nine RBI, four stolen bases, three doubles, three triples, and one home run.

The Penn State Behrend softball team picked up two wins on the first day of spring break, defeating Concordia (Ill.) 5-1 and Wartburg 3-1 in non-conference action on Sunday morning in Clermont, Florida.

Penn State Behrend, winners of three straight AMCC softball titles, was selected by conference coaches to defend their conference crown. Medaille College and Penn State Altoona, who both tied for second place one year ago, are expected to fill the second and third spots, respectively, in 2018.
